Michael Dunn

Mick is the owner / Director of Dunn Education Associates.
Mick worked in Newcastle Local Authority for over 25 years and held a number of senior posts including Principal Education Welfare Officer, Behaviour Improvement Programme Coordinator and Senior School Improvement Adviser. He has been strategic lead for Anti Bullying, Alternative Provision, Targeted Mental Health in Schools as well as the Behaviour and Attendance agenda, and has real commitment to supporting and engaging vulnerable learners in education and supporting them to achieve the best possible outcomes.
He has been responsible for the management and development of a range of local and national initiatives and has actively sought to create positive partnerships working to enhance school capacity to effectively engage and support parents, families and their local communities. He believes in the value of working together and collaborative working to address issues and is able to support schools in developing and delivering effective multi agency approaches.
After leaving Newcastle LA in 2015, he has continued to support schools and education settings to address these issues. He has provided support and training to schools with a focus upon engagement, staff support and specifically in supporting schools to respond to emotional wellbeing and emerging mental health issues in pupils through training, awareness raising and developing approaches which enable young people and staff to develop resilience and greater appreciation of how these issues can negatively influence engagement and academic outcomes.
Mick is a qualified social worker and has significant experience of working with the most challenging families and young people in accessing and re engaging with schools and the wider educational agenda.
